IIMB Distinguished Alumnus Awards 2009 conferred

The Distinguished Alumnus Awards for 2009 were conferred at a function held on the occasion of the Thirty-Sixth Foundation Day at IIMB, on October 28, 2009.

 

This year, three graduates of the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) of IIMB were selected to receive the awards:

M S Zahed, PGP '76
IIMB

Zahed is the founder of a technology company Zeeman Technologies Pvt Ltd (Zeemantech) and is also currently serving as the Advisor to the American Cancer Society, Tata Consultancy Services and State Bank of India. Earlier, he retired as Chairman & Managing Director of HMT, a Government of India enterprise, in 2007. He had served HMT for nearly four decades in various capacities including Director, Corporate Planning, Operations and as Executive Director, International before becoming CMD.

 

Mr Zahed is a Mechanical Engineer with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGP -1974-76) from IIM Bangalore.

 

Ramesh Venkateswaran, PGP '80
IIMB

Mr Ramesh Venkateswaran, Director, Sri Dharmashtala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDM IMD) has over thirty-five years of experience in the corporate sector as Management Consultant and Trainer. He had also served as the Headmaster of Lawrence School, Lovedale, Ooty; as board member of Patni Computers; and has worked with companies such as TVS Motors and Voltas.

 

 He has been a guest faculty in the Marketing area at IIM Bangalore since 1990.

 

Mr Venkateswaran is a Mechanical Engineer with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGP 1978-80) from IIM Bangalore. He was the only gold medalist of his batch in IIMB and has been a certified Auditor for ISO 9000 and QS 9000 Quality Systems.

 

Mr Venkateswaran is also the Founder Chairman of 'Vishwas' a non-profit counseling organization in Bengaluru, which offers free and confidential counseling services for people in emotional stress and founder Member of 'Nagarik', a forum to instill social responsibility among citizens.

 

Mr. N Ravi, PGP '82 
IIMB

Mr N Ravi is currently Secretary (East) with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Government of India. He was the Ambassador to Vietnam during 2004-2006. He has also served in Belgrade, Tokyo, Thimphu, Munich and Moscow in various capacities for Indian diplomatic missions.

 

An IFS officer of the 1973 batch, Mr Ravi took a sabbatical to do his Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) from IIM Bangalore, graduating in 1982. Mr Ravi is also India's Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which it is a dialogue partner.

 

The Distinguished Alumnus Award is an award given every year by IIMB to its alumni in recognition of achievements of exceptional merit. The first Distinguished Alumnus Award was given in 2007.

 

Alumni who have excelled in their chosen field of endeavour and made outstanding contributions, are recognized for accomplishments in:

 

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Management
  • Research / Education
  • Social Service

 

The award winner is presented with a plaque and a citation on the institute rolls.
