Research & Publications Office to host workshop on ‘Computational Techniques for Machine Learning with Emphasis on Management Sciences’ on 14 August
The session will be led by Prof. Ravindra Khattree, Oakland University
5 August, 2025, Bengaluru: The Office of Research and Publications (R&P) will host a research workshop on, ‘Computational Techniques for Machine Learning with Emphasis on Management Sciences’, to be led by Prof. Ravindra Khattree, Oakland University (Decision Sciences area), from 9 am on 14th August 2025, at P22.
Abstract: Decision making is an essential part of effective management and with abundance of data available, decisions can be effectively made by modelling and concisely summarizing the data. Machine Learning (ML) has become a recent approach for this purpose and various multivariate statistical tools have thus become an integral part of ML.
The workshop seeks to explore a few selected aspects of multivariate modelling and simulation. Participants will learn how to simulate various simple and complex situations, and how to analyze and summarize large data sets. Topics to be covered include simulations, principal component analyses, and unsupervised and supervised learning.
Speaker Profile: Prof. Ravindra Khattree is faculty of Applied Statistics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and a founding co-director of the Center for Data Science and Big Data Analytics at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan. He is also a participating member of the Center for Biomedical Research at the same university. He teaches a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses in Statistics and Data Science.
An author of over 125 research papers, Prof. Khattree is internationally known for his contributions in the areas of statistical inference, multivariate analysis, experimental designs, biostatistics, statistical finance and industrial statistics. He is the co-author of two books, both with D. N. Naik, titled, Applied Multivariate Statistics with SAS Software (Second Edition) and Multivariate Data Reduction and Discrimination with SAS Software, both co-published by SAS Press/Wiley. He has also co-edited, with C. R. Rao, the Handbook of Statistics, Volume 22 - Statistics in Industry, published by North Holland, with Henry So and Arni Rao, the Handbook of Statistics, Volume 53 - Statistics in Industry and Government with D. N. Naik, the Computational Methods in Biomedical Research published by CRC/Chapman and Hall. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, an elected member of International Statistical Institute and a winner of Young Statistician Award from the International Indian Statistical Association. He was awarded Oakland University’s Research Excellence Award for his outstanding contributions to Statistics and Applied Mathematics. He is a popular speaker at various conferences and meetings and has conducted numerous training courses around the world, including those as a Fulbright expert.
