Enabling access, opportunity and dignity: FormSeva Drive by Vikasana
IIMB’s PGP student-run social impact club drives community empowerment through on-ground assistance in availing government welfare schemes
8 November, 2025, Bengaluru: Vikasana, the social impact club of students of IIM Bangalore’s two-year full time MBA: Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), hosted the FormSeva Drive at the IIMB campus earlier today, an initiative to help members of the IIMB community, belonging to disadvantaged backgrounds, avail government welfare schemes through guided support and on-ground assistance. This drive to bridge the gap between awareness and accessibility embodies the spirit of service, inclusivity and empowerment that lies at the heart of IIM Bangalore, an institute where diversity is valued.
The focus of this drive by Vikasana is the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) scheme, which provides free health insurance of up to ₹5,00,000 per family per year, for cashless treatment at select network hospitals. The scheme covers secondary and tertiary care, including major illnesses, surgeries, pre- and post-hospitalization costs, diagnostics, and medicines – ensuring comprehensive medical protection for beneficiaries.
The day was about guiding those employed as domestic help with staff members residing at the IIMB campus, and was a continuation of Vikasana’s mission to extend long-term, sustainable welfare support to members of marginalized communities. Through this engagement, PGP 1 and PGP 2 student volunteers enabled registrations for the PM-JAY scheme, which can be utilized by beneficiaries using the Ayushman Card as a health card. So far, Vikasana has successfully facilitated more than 300 applications for the Ayushman Bharat Health Card – covering housekeeping, student mess, gardening and security staff of the Institute, and the drive will continue in the days to come. The initiative will strengthen outreach and ensure that benefits of government-run welfare schemes reach those members of the IIMB community who face barriers such as lack of awareness, logistical challenges and complex application processes.
Sachin Mahato, Chief Coordinator, Vikasana, shared that this initiative was inspired by the social protection scheme of the Swasti Foundation, that helps underprivileged communities access government-run health and social protection schemes. “Going forward, Vikasana aims to expand its outreach to other government welfare schemes, continuing its vision of sustainable empowerment and capacity building beyond short-term aid, enabling true upliftment.”
