APRIA-Kyobo Life Contribution Award for Prof. Sankarshan Basu

31 July, 2018, Bengaluru: Professor Sankarshan Basu, IIM Bangalore’s faculty from the Finance & Accounting area, has been honoured with the APRIA-Kyobo Life Contribution Award, at the 22nd Annual Conference of the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA) in Singapore, on July 31 (Tuesday). The award comprises a plaque and a cash prize.

Past recipients of this award have been noted scholars like Professor Harold Skipper Jr. of Georgia State University, Professor Yasushi Morimiya of Meiji University, Tokyo, Professor William Rabel of University of Alabama and Professor W. Jean Kwon of St. John’s University, New York.

Prof. Basu is currently the Chair, Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) at IIMB. His areas of interest, both in terms of research and teaching, are Financial Calculus, Option Pricing, Bond and Portfolio Valuation, Applications of Quantitative Techniques to Finance, Insurance, Reinsurance, Risk Management, Biostatistics and Corporate Finance.

He has presented his work at international conferences in Thailand, United States of America, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Norway, Iran, Tunisia, Morocco, The Netherlands, Russia, Germany, China, South Korea, Australia as well as in India. He has, to his credit, a number of papers in international journals of repute. He is currently Secretary of the Indian Finance Association.

Prior to joining IIMB, he was in the finance industry for a brief period. He is actively involved in various consulting and training projects across various domains like banks, insurance companies, stock exchanges, and various governmental agencies such as the Indian Revenue Service and the Indian Foreign Service, as well as other corporate entities. He also serves on the boards of few top organizations.

About APRIA: The Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA) was established in 1997 to provide a means for individuals and entities with an interest in risk management, insurance, actuarial science, and related areas to share ideas and engage in collaborative research for the ultimate benefit of the insurance industry.

APRIA is international, drawing members from across the world, but particularly from Asia-Pacific countries. APRIA members also come from countries in Africa, Europe and North America. The association invites participation from academicians, executives, researchers, and government leaders.

APRIA provides a forum where individuals from diverse cultural, political, and economic backgrounds share their ideas, as well as market developments, openly and in a spirit of helpfulness.

Kyobo Life Contribution Award: Kyobo Life Insurance, along with APRIA, has created an award for insurance researchers, the first one being presented in 2012. The APRIA-Kyobo Life Contribution Award is presented annually to honor those who carry out outstanding research and contribute to the insurance industry. APRIA is one of the three industry global academic societies, with around 350 members, mainly researchers, from around 30 countries. The other two are American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA) and European Group of Risk and Insurance Economists (EGRIE).
