FPM student Pavan Soni’s book proposal shortlisted for Bracken Bower Prize Best Business Book of the Year

One of the nine shortlisted authors this year, Pavan proposes a model of capability creation, with a focus on managerial actions, while offering rich insights from several Indian firms across industries

9 December, 2016, Bengaluru: The book proposal of Pavan Soni, a student of the Fellow Programme in Management of IIM Bangalore, has made it to the shortlist of the Bracken Bower Prize 2016 Best Business Book of the Year. The Bracken Bower Prize is an award instituted by Financial Times and McKinsey, where they identify potential business authors under the age of 35, to encourage young authors to identify and analyse business trends of the future. The prize is a £15,000 award for the best business book proposal.

From over 120 entries, across the various disciplines of management, Pavan is one of the nine shortlisted authors this year. Although he could not secure the final award which was declared in London last month, he was invited to attend the masterclass along with leading authors and publishers which helped him get useful insights on taking his work forward.

The doctoral student had submitted a book proposal based on his FPM thesis work. Tentatively titled ‘Building Innovation Capabilities in Resource Scarce Environments: Insights from India’, the book draws from the qualitative investigation that Pavan had carried out in his research. The text proposes a model of capability creation, with a focus on managerial actions, while offering rich insights from several Indian firms across industries.
