Report on Day 1 Eximius

Bangalore, August 6, 2016: IIM Bangalore’s 9th Edition of the National Entrepreneurship Summit, Eximius, was off to a rousing start, with renowned leadership consultant and the man behind many of India’s best-selling books linking management and mythology, Dr. Devdutt Patnaik, inaugurating the two- day event. He emphasized the interdependence between predictability, control, power and branding, and the necessity to build a diverse ecosystem so as to capitalize on opportunities and discover one’s identity.

Considering the current startup ecosystem in India, the summit aptly themed, ‘The Time Is Now', aims to encourage startups and students from across the country to think big and innovate. This national mega fest features a broad range of innovative contests, from B-plans, pitches, workshops, to key panel discussions relevant to today’s society.  Students released sky lanterns, to mark the beginning of this weekend celebrating the spirit of entrepreneurship.

The flagship event of Eximius, ‘Fast Forward’, provided a platform for emerging entrepreneurs to pitch their business plans to a distinguished jury. The ideas proposed targeted the next generation of tech-savvy individuals and ranged from online shopping to smart home solutions. The winning team consisting of Ravina Mutha, Mehul Sharma and Pranay Jain pitched MIKE Messenger, an innovative integrated messaging service. ‘Game of Clicks’,the digital marketing event gave students an opportunity to collaborate with start-ups to develop and implement innovative marketing strategies.

Disruptive Marketeers’ tested the ability of participants to devise a CSR strategy for top Indian FMCG brands. The 6 finalists proposed interesting ideas of helping chaiwallahs, vegetable vendors, homemakers, dabbawallas and construction workers among others. Team Vzards from IIM Visakhapatnam, consisting of Dipanjan Hore, Manish Ghosal, Mayank Maria and Rajesh Bhol battled it out to emerge as the winner.

The key speakers for the day were A B Vijay Kumar, IBM Distinguished Engineer & CTO-CIC MobileFirst iOS Garage, and Muthiah Venkateswaran, Partner, Kstart, a venture capital initiative by Kalaari Capital, who spoke about the startup culture and the key enablers for early stage startups. The talk by Varun Seth, CEO and Founder, and Kunal Kapoor, Co-Founder of Ketto, a 2012 social crowdfunding platform was another major crowd puller.  The talk focused on how the internet can be used creatively for the larger good.

Holding true to its theme, the first day of Eximius proved to herald much inspiration for over 2000 students and entrepreneurs who visited the fest, and promised them an equally exciting day to come tomorrow.
