Rajat Mangla, Nakul Sehgal, Nitish Ranjan & Kshitij Chaudhary, from PGP 2014-16, lift the Runners-Up trophy besting MIT Sloan, Yale School of Management & 10 other global B-school teams
19 APRIL, 2016: A team from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, comprising Rajat Mangla, Nakul Sehgal, Nitish Ranjan and Kshitij Chaudhary, from PGP 2014-16, secured the third position globally at the Integrated Leadership Case Competition 2016, held at Yale University from 8th to 10th April, 2016.
The final round had 15 teams from 11 countries. The competition involved solving a complex live case based on the palm oil industry in Indonesia and presenting the final solution to a panel of judges comprising experts from both industry and academia, which included the former CEO of Pepsico International, Micheal D White. The prize included the Runners-Up trophy, a cash prize and Certificates of Merit.
In the first round, teams were asked to submit a video/PPT or essay on integrated leadership and the impact on a real-life problem. The team from IIMB was shortlisted based on a written submission that focused on integrated leadership in the automotive industry in light of massive disruption caused by autonomous driving and cab aggregators. Fifteen teams from 11 countries qualified for the next round. The second round was held at the Yale University at New Haven, USA. In the second round, the teams were given a case study to solve in 7 hours. The case study was around solving the challenges created by palm oil production in Indonesia. The team from IIMB presented an innovative solution creating a comprehensive action plan for all stakeholders in the case study. Based on these presentations, 3 teams were selected for the final round where the teams presented their solution to a panel of judges which included Michael White, former CEO of PepsiCo International, among others.
The team from IIM Bangalore finished 3rd overall ahead of teams from Yale School of Management and MIT Sloan School of Management. The winning team was Asian Institute of Management from Philippines. University of South California, USA, stood second.
