MySportsCard, an online platform for the growth of sports at the grassroots by IIMB student Abhijeet Bhatt, shortlisted for YSE programme in Singapore

22 March, 2016: Abhijeet Bhatt, student of IIMB’s Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM), batch of 2013, has been shortlisted for the Young Social Entrepreneurs (YSE) Programme 2016 in Singapore.

Representing IIM Bangalore at the international workshop from March 14-18, Abhijeet presented his venture MySportsCard, and was among the 16 shortlisted teams. MySportsCard is a launchpad for talent in sports. It is a community for athletes of all sports, age and regions. It is incubated at IIMB’s NSRCEL as a student-run venture.

“Abhijeet’s venture is part of NSRCEL’s special initiative for its students, the Student Run Venture (SRV) programme.  The idea behind SRV is to help students start up as painlessly as possible.  The success of Abhijeet’s enterprise so far is an example of the way in which students can produce interesting enterprises even while they are studying at IIMB.  The programme allows them to make the most use of the range of resources that the school and NSRCEL provide –  intellectual, physical and social networks,” said NSRCEL Chairperson G Sabarinathan.

Abhijeet is among 16 groups shortlisted from across the world for the YSE programme and will undergo training to sharpen his ideas and improve his business plans. He will get to take part in an ongoing mentorship scheme, overseas YSE study visit, and a Pitching for Change session to obtain funding to launch/develop his enterprise. He will also join the Singapore International Foundation’s alumni network and benefit from business clinics and networking sessions.
The shortlisted teams will present their final pitch for funding at the end of the programme, tentatively by October.

This year, SIF admitted 52 teams, comprising 123 participants representing 14 nationalities -- Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, United Kingdom, Vietnam and Yemen.

Launched in 2010, SIF’s YSE programme inspires, equips and enables youth of different nationalities to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys/social enterprises in Singapore and beyond. The programme also seeks to build a global network of social entrepreneurs from which the power of ideas, know-how and resources can be harnessed to enrich lives and effect positive change for a better world.

At present, Abhijeet is working full-time towards his venture MySportsCard. Earlier in 2015, MySportsCard was selected as a finalist entry at the National Student Startup Challenge YuStart, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).

Abhijeet’s venture has also been selected as a top 500 idea at the national level ET Power of Ideas Challenge, organized by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India (GoI).
