Professor J Ramachandran is one among India’s Best Management Thinkers

IIMB expert on Strategy and author of several papers and case studies features in Thinkers50 India list

FEBRUARY 12, 2016: Professor J Ramachandran from the Corporate Strategy & Policy Area at IIMB has been listed among the Best Management Thinkers for the year 2015, as per the Thinkers50 India list. The list described these individuals as “people who generated, built upon and enriched thought leadership in the country”. The list also features Ravi Venkatesan (Social Venture Partners), Professor Nirmalya Kumar (Tata Sons), Professor Tarun Khanna (Harvard University), among others. Professor Ramachandran is one of two faculty members from IIMB to feature on this list—the other being Professor R Vaidyanathan from the Finance & Control Area.

Professor Ramachandran’s research focuses on the growth and governance challenges of business groups, multinational corporations and creative firms. His work has been published in the Strategic Management Journal, Harvard Business Review, Global Strategy Journal, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Advances in International Management, IIMB Management Review, Vikalpa, and Economic and Political Weekly, among others.

Professor Ramachandran is the first Bain Fellow in India. Recognition for his work includes the IMD FDC Award for Best Paper in Strategy/IB Theory from the Academy of Management USA; Best Case Awards from the European Foundation for Management Development; as well as several Best Teacher Awards at IIM Bangalore. He was named as one among the best nine business school professors in India by Business Today in 2006.

He is also actively engaged with the practice of management, and is on the board of several reputed organizations. Over the years he has served as a consultant to many companies.

A qualified Chartered and Cost Accountant, and a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Professor Ramachandran has been a Visiting Professor at INSEAD, France; the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, USA; and the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, USA. He has also served the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore as a member of the Board of Governors.
