GMAE in Aerospace and Aviation Management takes off

APRIL 26, 2015: The General Management Programme for Aerospace and Aviation Executives (GMAE) was launched on April 26, 2015 at IIM Bangalore in the presence of Suraj Chettri, Regional Director, Airbus & Airbus Group – India and faculty from Toulouse Business School and IIM Bangalore.

The programme, jointly launched by Toulouse Business School (TBS), Airbus & Airbus Group and IIM Bangalore, is a milestone because it is the first aerospace and aviation management programme in the country. “To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home. Welcome home, to this programme, which will surely be an unmatched experience,” said Professor Christophe Benaroya, Marketing, International Business, TBS. Describing the GMAE as “a specially designed programme which combines the best talent from India and France”, he said it also incidentally marked the 50th anniversary of Indian-French collaboration in aerospace activities.

In his inaugural address, Professor Ishwar Murthy, Dean Faculty, offered an overview of the programmes offered by IIM Bangalore and said: “Aerospace and Aviation Management is a new domain and the GMAE programme is sure to provide a great opportunity for learning.” Professor S Raghunath, Corporate Strategy and Policy at IIMB, then introduced Sunil Chettri, the keynote speaker, to the audience.

Offering statistics to emphasize the local and global growth of the aerospace industry, the Airbus and Airbus Group India head heralded 2015 as the ‘era of flying on demand’ and drew attention to the fact that India is the third largest domestic flight provider with the highest population per aircraft in the world. “By joining this GMAE program, you will gain opportunities to enhance your capabilities to become better equipped for the bright future that aerospace has for us,” he said.

Shambhavi S Rao, Senior Manager, Executive Education Programmes, IIM Bangalore, proposed the vote of thanks.
