In the case study contest on how Pokémon Go can deal with cheaters, the four runners-up were two teams from IIM Indore and one each from IIM Kozhikode and SPJIMR
21 March, 2018, Bengaluru: Shubhanshuk Sarkar, a first year student of IIM Bangalore’s Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), has won the recently concluded Business Line on Campus (BLoC) case study competition.
Pokémon Go, introduced in 2016, is a unique AR-GPS based gameplay. After its mammoth initial success, the number of daily active users dropped significantly. In the case study contest on how Pokémon Go can deal with cheaters, the four runners-up were two teams from IIM Indore and one each from IIM Kozhikode and SPJIMR.
This contest was named Pokémon Go’s dilemma with cheaters. Shubhanshuk’s case, titled, ‘Leverage Pokémon Go’s strong social aspects’, recommends that Niantic (an American software development company that developed the game) should enhance player-vs-player features, make the game more responsive, and fine-tune technology.
According to the contest website, the winning entries showed sound understanding of concepts. In judging the winners, more credit was given to entries with a bias towards action. The other criteria included strength of analysis, application of theoretical frameworks, originality and practicality of ideas and presentation.
