CSITM invites applications for the First Doctoral Consortium under InCIS 2027

Applications for limited available seats open on 25 July 2026

23 July, 2026, Bengaluru: The Centre for Software and Information Technology Management (CSITM), IIM Bangalore, invites applications for the Doctoral Consortium of the third India Conference on Information Systems (InCIS 2027), the first such consortium to be held under InCIS. The Consortium will take place at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore on March 11, 2027, immediately preceding the main conference, which runs from March 12–14, at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. The Doctoral Consortium Chair is Prof. Mayank Kumar, Chairperson, CSITM, IIMB.

A doctoral consortium gives research scholars a dedicated setting to present their dissertation work and receive constructive feedback from peers and senior mentors, including guidance on research methodology and finding the right outlet for their research. It is also an opportunity to learn about research underway at other institutions, understand what a career in academia and research entails, and begin forming the professional connections that matter over the long term. Participants are expected to leave with sharper research questions, a wider set of contacts, and a clearer sense of the road ahead.

Eligibility

  • Open to Ph.D. students who have defended their thesis proposal but have not yet submitted their thesis.
  • A maximum of 15 students will be selected for the Consortium.
  • An institution may submit up to two applications.

Format and Support

The Consortium is a one-day event. The detailed schedule will be shared with selected participants, and the list of mentors will be announced shortly. Mentoring will be organized at a ratio of one mentor to every three students, and each student can book a 10–15-minute one-on-one slot with a mentor for individual feedback on their work. A networking lunch and dinner will be hosted for participants.

There is no fee for the Doctoral Consortium itself, though participants must register for InCIS 2027. Round-trip travel and accommodation are covered for domestic participants through a scholarship. Selected students will also have the chance to explore research collaboration with CSITM, IIM Bangalore, and be mentored by its researcher group, with more details shared during the Consortium.

Selection Process

Nominations are welcome from all eligible institutions; however, seats are limited to 15 students. Selection will be based on the merit, quality, and significance of the proposed research; the candidate's potential contribution to the Consortium; and the potential benefit of the Consortium to the candidate's research and professional development.

  • A recommendation letter from the faculty advisor, endorsed by the institution's IS area chair or department head.
  • An extended abstract of the Ph.D. thesis proposal, covering research motivation, research question(s), theoretical framing, research design and methodology, preliminary findings, expected contributions, and study timeline. The abstract must not exceed 2 pages.
  • A one-page note on what the applicant hopes to take away from the Consortium and the feedback they are looking for. This is shared with the applicant's mentor in advance so the sessions can be shaped around their needs.
