Prof. Allen P Ugargol receives the prestigious ‘Yusuf Hamied Fellowship’ 2022-23

The Fellowship, a joint program between Columbia Global Centers Mumbai and Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, aims to improve public health outcomes in India

17 February, 2023, Bengaluru: Prof. Allen P Ugargol, Chairperson of the Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM) – the two-year MBA for Working Professionals and faculty in the Public Policy area of IIM Bangalore, has received the prestigious ‘Yusuf Hamied Fellowship’ 2022-23, for his proposal titled: ‘Aging and the Lifecourse Perspective of Older Adults’.

The Yusuf Hamied Fellowship is a joint program between Columbia Global Centers Mumbai and Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Initiated in 2018, the Fellowship is aimed towards strengthening public health research in India with a focus on Health and Environment, Access to Treatment, and Population and Family Health. The Fellowship promotes faculty exchange and focuses on building research collaborations and mutual learning, to improve public health outcomes in India. 

Prof. Ugargol has been invited as a Visiting Fellow to the Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health during Spring of 2023. Fellows have the opportunity for deep immersion in the intellectual and pedagogical activities of the Mailman School to advance their research on India through building networks, presenting and sharing their work, and learning from the teaching and research activities of the faculty. 

Proposal Brief: The project will focus on the life course trajectory of older adults, and will document existing disparities, challenges and gaps in geriatric care to draw insights on the various dimensions of aging in India. The project will also provide policy recommendations to improve geriatric care arrangements and health outcomes for this population segment.
