28 April, 2021, Bengaluru: Professor U Dinesh Kumar, faculty in the Decision Sciences area, IIM Bangalore and Chairperson of IIMB’s Data Centre and Analytics Lab, has been declared one of the winners of the Analytics India Magazine Data Science Faculty Awards 2021, in the category: Distinguished Professor Award. Prof. Dinesh Kumar is also IIMB Chair of Excellence.
Analytics India Magazine’s inaugural skill-up summit concluded on April 23, 2021. The two-day virtual event saw the participation of academics, industry experts and students. On the concluding day of the summit, AIM awarded faculty members who have contributed significantly with their work in the area of Data Science. The awards celebrate excellence in Data Science, Analytics, Machine Learning and AI pedagogy.
Prof. Dinesh Kumar says it was a great honor for him to receive the Distinguished Professor Award from such a prestigious organization. He dedicates this award to his students who encouraged him to write cases that are now bestsellers at Harvard Business Publishing, as well as bestselling books.
Prof. Dinesh Kumar holds a PhD in Mathematics from IIT Bombay. He introduced the Business Analytics elective course in 2008 to the PGP students at IIM Bangalore and started one of the first certificate programmes in Business Analytics in India in 2010. He has published more than 60 research articles in leading academic journals. In October 2017, his book, ‘Business Analytics – The Science of Data-Driven Decision Making’. published by Wiley India, was launched at IIM Bangalore.
Dr. Dinesh Kumar has over 20 years of teaching and research experience. Prior to joining IIM Bangalore, he worked at several reputed institutes across the world. He has also carried out predictive and prescriptive analytics consulting projects for leading organizations, and has conducted training programmes on Analytics for several companies.
Dr. Dinesh Kumar conducts corporate training programmes in Analytics and has trained more than 1000 professionals in the field of Analytics. He is the Founding President of the Analytics Society of India (ASI). He was awarded the Best Young Teacher Award by the Association of Indian Management Institutions in 2003. He is listed as one of the top 10 Analytics academics in India by the Analytics India Magazine.
