Professor Gopal NaikProfessor in the Economics & Social Sciences area has been appointed as the first Jal Jeevan Mission Chair in Utility Development & Water Economics.

IIMB  was nominated by the National Jal Jeevan Mission, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, to host (one among the five) Jal Jeevan Mission Chairs to carry out high quality empirical and applied research in rural drinking water and sanitation sector to address sectoral challenges and facilitate in the achievement of ‘Har Ghar Jal’ and ‘ODF Plus’ in rural India.

The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) was launched by the Prime Minister of India on August 15, 2019, to enable every rural household to have Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) by 2024.
