Financial Support through Fellowship, Grants, and Incentives

PhD Students at IIMB

  • Financial support primarily comprises a tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend (fellowship) of ₹52,000.

  • As part of the fellowship, PhD scholars are expected to provide service as Research Assistants and Teaching Assistants at various stages of the programme.

  • In addition, PhD scholars may be provided with single-occupancy hostel accommodation* for up to five years. PhD scholars who opt for married accommodation outside the campus are eligible for a housing subsidy of ₹26,500 per month, while unmarried scholars residing off campus are eligible for a housing subsidy of ₹20,000 per month.

  • PhD scholars are also eligible for a start-up grant (₹80,000 in Year 1) and contingency grants (₹30,000 per year during Years 2 to 5). These grants may be used for books, stationery, computers, and other resources that support doctoral research and academic work.

  • The Institute provides travel grants to encourage high-quality research and enable PhD scholars to present their work at reputed national and international conferences. Currently, PhD scholars are eligible for travel funding of up to ₹4,40,000, subject to approval by the Travel Committee.

  • PhD scholars also receive incentives for successfully achieving key programme milestones. In addition, several scholars receive external scholarships specifically available to doctoral researchers.

  • All financial support is available for a period of five years from the date of registration in the doctoral programme and ceases at the end of June in the fifth year of the programme (or date of convocation), whichever is earlier.
