Summary

Srinivasan received his doctoral degree (Fellow Programme in Management) from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He is Professor of Strategy and Chairperson, Center for Digital Public Goods (CDPG) at IIM Bangalore.

Accomplishments

His areas of research include digital public goods & digital public infrastructures, protocols and open networks, platform strategy, and competitive  strategies.

Srinivasan has published multiple editions of his book on Platform Business Models (including a textbook edition-2025; a German language translation-2024; an executive edition-2022; first edition-2021). He has also published books on strategy and knowledge management.

He has published papers in international journals on DPGs & DPIs, platforms, and strategy.

He has authored a number of cases on platform organisations, business models, strategy, and knowledge management.

He teaches courses on competitive strategy and platform business models for the MBA classes, and strategy process research for the doctoral students.

He has designed and coordinated executive education programmes on strategy for senior managers; and policy planning and implementation for senior bureaucrats and government officers. He has conducted customized workshops on visioning, strategizing and strategic planning, and strategic performance management for various multinational, government, public and private organizations.

He has undertaken consulting projects for various large organizations and startups on strategic planning and restructuring.

He is leading the efforts in publishing the annual “State of DPI in India” report, by CDPG in partnership with Protean e-Gov Technologies.

He also works with the governments to design, develop, and deploy population-scale digital public infrastructures (DPI) and digital public goods (DPG), as part of the CDPG.

Recent DPI/ DPG projects:

  • Design and development of the detailed project report for launching the Bharat Taxi Co-operative Ltd.; a driver-owned cooperative society built on the Beckn Protocol and launched operations in late 2025, for the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India.

  • Detailed Paper for the design and development of the Digital Address Code (DIGIPIN) for the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India.

Ongoing projects

  • Design and ground-up development of the Open Network for Carbon Markets (ONCM), with Networks for Humanity (Beckn and Finternet) and other stakeholders including Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, GOI; Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC); Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal; Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), GOI; and other stakeholders.
  • Study of eCommerce’s impact on small and medium enterprises – for the DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce, GOI
