IIMB’s Zero Plate Waste Project with Akshaya Patra

IIMB’s Zero Plate Waste Project with Akshaya Patra

Food is not just a precious, but also a sacred commodity in India. It is disappointing then, that tonnes of food goes to waste in the country, for reasons ranging from over-production to over-consumption. Driven by its Director, Prof. G. Raghuram’s passion for sustainability, IIM Bangalore has joined hands with Akshaya Patra’s youth initiative, Aikya, for a campaign to curb food wastage. Called the Zero Plate Waste Project, the campaign seeks to ensure that the IIM Bangalore campus does not contribute to wastage of food. It also wishes to influence other institutions to do the same.

To realize its vision, Zero Plate Waste Project, jointly run by Aikya and Environment and Sustainability Club of IIM Bangalore, focuses on making students, residents and visitors aware about the amount of food being wasted on campus and solutions to tackle it. This is brought about through exciting activities and awareness drives, to engage each and every stakeholder in the endeavour to reduce food wastage.
