IIMB welcomes 2016-17 batch of PGPPM participants to a year of learning on campus

May 30, 2016: “The nation is at the crossroads. The next 20-30 years are very crucial for us to be able to give our fellow citizens the quality of life that they deserve. The private sector, who we cater to through other programmes, has a certain importance. But the public systems, which many of you represent, are also exceedingly important assets. They are essential ingredients to ensure there is growth, there is equity, the rule of law,” said Professor Raghavan Srinivasan, Director Incharge, IIMB, while welcoming the participants to the inauguration of the 2016-17 batch of the one-year residential Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy & Management (PGPPM) at IIM Bangalore, on May 30 (Monday).

Catalyzed by the Government of India and United Nations Development Programme, the PGPPM, launched by the Centre for Public Policy at IIMB, is packed with path-breaking insights about winning policy making and management strategies. It offers participants global exposure through workshop courses.

“In terms of long-term education, IIMB runs a doctoral programme and four other postgraduate programmes. But, we know from experience, that the dedication of students of PGPPM is exemplary,” Prof. Srinivasan added.

Offering his best wishes to the new batch of students, he urged them to make the most of their stay at IIMB. “All of you will find your experience at IIMB enjoyable and challenging. This is a place for learning. The onus of learning is on you. However, after your one year here, you will value and cherish your experience forever.”

Dr. Rajalaxmi Kamath, Chairperson, PGPPM, shared her own experience with the participants. “I signed up to learn in a classroom after working for several years. I know that the initial period is going to be tough. But the learning is exponential. Once you get on with it, it will be a smooth ride. So don’t get disheartened. You can always count on support from all of us, including academic help from doctoral students,” she added.
