Faculty Awards Over the Last 3 Years

16 August, 2018: IIMB faculty are well-known for their excellence in teaching and research, and bring the ideas and methodologies of other fields in their scholarship and teaching. They publish in world-class journals, prepare case studies for teaching and training, publish working papers on a variety of topics, make presentations at national and international conferences, contribute book chapters and publish books.

Research carried out by the faculty is used to augment new courses and Executive Education Programmes. IIMB faculty continue to participate in, and influence, policy making at the national and international levels as members of critical committees. They are also involved in managing important initiatives with significant social impact. IIMB faculty make significant impact on business, government and society.

Here is a snapshot of awards conferred on the IIMB faculty over the last three years.

Prof. G. Raghuram: Lifetime Achievement Award by the Mahindra Transport Excellence Awards 2017, in recognition his of body of work on the Transport sector in India and lauds him for “decades of outperformance, dedication and generous contribution towards the betterment of the Indian transport industry”.

Prof. P D Jose: Award from the then President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, for making management education accessible to all through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

Prof. Ganesh N Prabhu: Jointly won (along with Dr Amarpreet Singh Ghura, Post-Doctoral Fellow, IIM Calcutta) the ET Cases – FLAME Pedagogical Innovation Case Award, for case titled, ‘Arthakranti: Need for Strategy’ at the 4th FLAME International Conference on Research and Teaching Cases.

Prof. Sankarshan Basu: APRIA-Kyobo Life Contribution Award, at the 22nd Annual Conference of the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA) in Singapore.

Prof. J. Ramachandran: Jointly won the EMFD Case Writing Competition 2016, (along with K S Manikandan, Associate Professor of Strategy, IIM Tiruchirappalli, and K Rajyalakshmi, formerly Research Associate at IIM Bangalore), for a two-part Tata Group case, in the category ‘Indian Management Issues and Opportunities’.

Prof. Rejie George Pallathitta: Selected as one of the six finalists of the Carolyn B. Dexter Award, for co-authored paper titled ‘Business Group Affiliation and FDI Spillovers’ (co-authored with Dr. Alexander Eapen (Senior Lecturer & Deputy Director – Research, ANU College of Business & Economics) and Jihye Yeo (PhD candidate, ANU College of Business & Economics).

Prof. P C Narayan (Former Faculty): ‘Teaching Innovator Award-2016’ by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, for his approach, “Transitioning from a ‘Teacher-centric’ to a ‘Student-centric’ Classroom and Online Learning”.

Prof. Preeti Krishnan Lyndem: ‘Best Paper in Retailing & Distribution Track’ at the ANZMAC (Australian and New Zealand Marketing Academy) 2016 Conference, for research paper titled ‘Beware of Strangers...Unless You’re Looking at Making Connections for Shopping Tips’ (along with three co-authors).

Prof. Vasanthi Srinivasan: Distinguished Alumna Award from Xavier School of Management (XLRI), under the ‘Academician’ category.

Prof. A Damodaran: Dewang  Mehta Award, under the category ‘Best Professor in Economics’, for extending economics research to IPRs, Creative Industry and Sustainable Development.

Prof. Mukta Kulkarni: ‘Best Paper Award’ in 2016 for her paper, ‘Overqualification, Mismatched Qualification, and Hiring Decisions: Perceptions of Employers’ selected by Personnel Review’s editorial team as the Outstanding Paper in the 2016 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence.

Prof. Pranav Garg (Former Faculty): ‘Best Conference Paper ‘Award in the Strategic Human Capital Interest Group at the Strategic Management Society 36th Annual Conference, Berlin, 2016, for his co-authored paper (with John Chen), ‘Dancing with the stars: Benefits of a star employee’s temporary absence for organizational performance’

Prof. Sai Yayavaram, Prof. Rejie George Pallathitta and Prof. Trilochan Sastry: Jointly won the Distinguished Paper Award in the annual meeting of the Academy of Management, 2016 Conference, for their paper ‘Effect of Political Connections on Profit Persistence: Evidence from India’

Prof. Srinivasan Rangan: ‘2nd Best Paper Prize’ for his paper ‘Foreign Institutional Investor Trading and Future Returns: Evidence from an Emerging Economy’ at the International Conference on Financial Markets and Corporate Governance, IIT Chennai.

Prof. Pulak Ghosh: Prof. P C Mahalanobis Medal for outstanding contribution to Econometrics by the Indian Econometric Society. Also named among the Top 5 Indian data scientists globally. Awarded Distinguished Alumnus by the Oakland University, USA.

Prof. Deepak Malghan: Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao Award in Social Sciences in the Human Geography and Ecology category, for the year 2015, as per an announcement made on February 14, 2017.

Prof. B Mahadevan:  Vishista Samskrita Sevavrati Samman 2016 Award by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Prof. M S Sriram: Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award for his collection of short stories and later for an essay.
