14th Annual National Conference on Electoral and Political Reforms at IIMB on March 10 & 11

Organized by Association for Democratic Reforms & Karnataka Election Watch, the meet will host representatives of the National Election Watch from each state chapter, members of political parties, government institutions and media; Chief Election Commissioner Shri O. P. Rawat will be the Chief Guest

01 March, 2018, Bengaluru: The 14th Annual National Conference on Electoral and Political Reforms, organized by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Karnataka Election Watch (KEW), will take place at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) on March 10 and 11 (Saturday and Sunday), 2018, from 10 am onwards.

The conference will see discussions on major issues related to electoral and political reforms, such as ‘Muscle and money power: Impact on Elections,’ ‘Legal Advocacy: A Tool for Electoral Reforms,’ ‘Political Reforms and the Fourth Estate,’ ‘Money power and Elections – Success stories from the exceptions’, ‘Information & Communication Technology for Better Governance’ and ‘Role of Youth & Voter Awareness: Advocacy by State Coordinators’.

Shri Om Prakash Rawat, Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India, will be the Chief Guest and deliver the keynote address.

Representatives of the National Election Watch (NEW) from each state chapter, members of political parties, government institutions and media will be present to deliberate on issues related to electoral and political reform in the country.

Professor G. Raghuram, Director of IIM Bangalore, will address the participants. Speakers include Harish Narasappa (Founder, DAKSH and Coordinator, KEW), Prof Trilochan Sastry (IIMB faculty member and Founder Member, Trustee and Chairman of ADR), Priyank Kharge (State Minister with independent charge – Information Technology, Bio-Technology, Science and Technology, Tourism), G.N. Nagaraj (State Secretary, CPI(M)), Mahima J Patel (State President, JD(U)), Tanveer Ahmed (National Spokesperson, JDS), Justice Gopala Gowda (Retd. Judge Supreme Court, Former Chief Justice – Orissa High Court), Yashwant Deshmukh (C-Voter), Sugata Srinivasraju (Co-Founder, Ed. Director – The State), C G Manjula (Views Editor – Prajavani), Ramakrishna Upadhya (Senior Journalist, TV9), Manoj Mitta (Senior Independent Journalist and Author) and Anita Gurumurthy (Executive Director – IT for Change).

The events on Day One include book releases – ‘Karnataka Voter Survey, 2018’, ‘Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Election Watch Report, 2017’, by Chief Election Commissioner of India Om Prakash Rawat, and Professor G Raghuram, Director, IIM Bangalore.

KEW is the Karnataka chapter of the National Election Watch (NEW), a congregation of over 1200 civil society groups across the country.
