Exhibition on Gender and Inclusivity at IIMB sees enthusiastic response
13 JANUARY, 2023: Poignant poems, and vibrant sketches and doodles sparked interesting conversations at the N-Classroom cluster on the afternoon of 13th January as students, faculty, staff and campus residents visited the exhibition themed ‘Non-verbal Communication on Gender and Inclusivity’.
Put together by the Institute’s Internal Committee, led by Prof. Hema Swaminathan, its chairperson and faculty in the Public Policy area, the exhibition had entries in the form of painting/sketches, installation/craft, collage, and rangoli – drawing attention to the doublespeak around gender and inclusivity and exploring ways of addressing these issues.
Here’s are a few lines from a poem by MBA student Chaitanya Shinde (PGP 2021-23) that was shared at the exhibition:
Gender, Diversity, Inclusion and Safety
Words that should come naturally,
But why do they still cause pain?
Why are these issues still a chain?
Prof. Hema Swaminathan said, “Every year 25th November marks the International Day for elimination of violence against women. This day usually follows 16 days of activism ending with International Human Rights Day on 10th December. In the span of these 16 days fall other significant days such as World AIDS Day, International Day of Person with Disabilities. In honor of the 16 days of world activism, on January 13th, 2023, we hosted this exhibition themed ‘Non-verbal Communication on Gender and Inclusivity’.”
