IIMB celebrates Hindi Day with talks and competitions

Hindi day at IIMB, 2019

16 SEPTEMBER, 2019: IIM Bangalore celebrated Hindi Day on September 16 (Monday) to promote the use of Hindi in various official activities, alongside encouraging the use of simple Hindi.

Several events and competitions were conducted as part of the celebrations. AK Tripathi, from the Hindi Cell at IIMB, welcomed the gathering. Dean Administration Prof. M.S. Narasimhan, Chief Human Resources Officer Shivakumar Venkateswaran, and Chief Guest Dr. Mangal Prasad lit the inaugural lamp.

Shivakumar Venkateswaran shared the context of Hindi being adopted as the official language of the country.

IIMB’s Hindi Officer Neetha John read out the HRD Minister’s message.

The chief guest, Dr. Mangal Prasad, explained the role played by Hindi in the pre-independence era and thereafter. “As the struggle for independence was not limited to one place or region, Hindi broke barriers and became the language which connected the country. Given the rich cultural heritage of our country, we need to give due importance to our languages,” he said.

A competition featuring patriotic songs was conducted as part of the celebrations. The winners are: Neha Nagaraj, from HR, and Sindhu BR, from the Director’s Office (first prize); Chitra Gopal and Kamalamba PV, from ERP (second prize); Anita M Pawar and Bhavya V, from the Faculty Block (third prize); Prerana Maheshwari, Research Associate (Economics and Social Sciences area), Reetika Sindhi, Research Assistant (Centre for Public Policy), Asma Khannum and Poornima N, from Accounts, (motivation prizes).

Sunita Mishra of the Hindi Cell compered the event. AK Tripathi gave the vote of thanks.
