“Arnab Mukherji is an applied microeconomist whose work focusses on the economics of healthcare and governance. He actively collaborates on international, and inter-disciplinary research teams such as SEHAT [Duke University] and PROSPERED [McGill University]. His work on Bihar was published in a book edited by N. K. Singh and N. Stern titled “The Story of New Bihar: Rekindling: Governance and Development” and released by the President of India. His research has been published in international journals such as the American Journal of Public HealthBMJEconomic Development and Cultural ChangeJournal of Applied EconometricsJournal of Development StudiesJournal of Health Economics, and World Development. Some of his work has been cited in the media in places as diverse as the Wall Street JournalKnowledge@WhartonBusiness Standard, and the World Bank Blog. He also writes popular pieces in the Hindu Business Line and has been a part of the organizing committee for the IIMB Policy Hackathon since its inception. He has been a consultant with the Government of Karnataka, Bihar, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank from time to time.”

Dr. Mukherji is interested in how survey and administrative data can be used to inform public policy. He has been using this in the context of health where he has been studying the impact of social policy on health outcomes and also in the context of how governance impacts economic growth.

Dr. Mukherji has consulted on a number of impact evaluations conducted for the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and also on public policy related matters funded by international organizations and different state governments in India.
