- Japan Immersion Programme – Business Planning for International Markets – Japan (BPIM – Japan) Business Planning for International Markets – Japan is an elective course for IIMB PGP programme offered by the Centre with an objective to enable students to appreciate the complexity of business creation in a culturally different region. The highlight of the course is a two-week immersion in Japan, with exposure to Japan industry, academia, and society.
In 2019, a batch of 43 students went through this elective course. However, with travel on hold for most of 2020 and 2021, IJSC at IIMB reimagined global learning and the 2020 immersion was conducted virtually. These Virtual Immersions allow students real-life context to explore competencies needed in the 21st century. A batch of 28 students were part of this course and they collaborated via video conferencing applications. In each virtual immersion session, IIMB students are given learning tasks and business projects to complete under the guidance of mentors from Indian and Japanese organizations such as Toshiba, Mizuho, Sumeda Corporation. Some interactions with Toshiba were in their home language. While an interpreter was in place, students were also strongly encouraged to learn about the culture(s) within which their target language is spoken. Also, over the course of the programme, IIMB students engaged in an immersion-interaction with students from Meiji University and this not only developed a deeper understanding of their counterparts’ culture, country and language, it also helped students gain a new perspective on their own. The programme ended on a high note.
In 2019, a batch of 43 students went through this elective course.
