“Achievers are not afraid of challenges, rather they cherish and use them wisely and well”: Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty

IIMB hosts felicitation ceremony for the PhD, PGPPM, PGPEM and EPGP batches of 2020 and 2021 on May 27

27 May, 2022, Bengaluru: “The last two years taught the world a very important lesson - that is resilience. This is the first lesson I am sure you learnt - the power of resilience during your studies at IIMB. You have also learnt to be creative, imaginative, to think originally, and unconventionally. But, above all, you learnt to be respectful, and be open to other ideas and embrace the unknown. It is the possession of these qualities and values that have transformed you into individuals who can adapt to any critical situation and provide solutions to the society's new challenges with readiness and resilience”, said Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIM Bangalore, in his message to the students of the Classes of 2020 and 2021 of the institute, this evening.

Dr. Devi Shetty was speaking at the felicitation ceremony that IIM Bangalore hosted on May 27 (Friday), 2022 for students from the Classes of 2020 and 2021 from the full-time Doctoral or PhD programme; the one-year full-time Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP); the two-year weekend Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM), and the one-year full time Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM).

Dr. Devi Shetty inspired the audience further by stating: “Perhaps many of you have not realized that these are historical times, and each of you in your own unique way, have made history. But this is not the end, rather the beginning of a new, perhaps even more exciting and unpredictable journey, that will lead you to the next step. We must use the storms of life to rise to greater heights. Achievers are not afraid of challenges, rather they cherish and use them wisely and well. As you move into the valleys of life, learn to cultivate the valleys so that they can become more productive and fruitful when you reach the mountain top.”

Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore, in his address, highlighted some of the achievements of the faculty, students, alumni and the Centres of Excellence at IIMB. He also spoke about the institute’s achievements including the recent high ratings achieved from prestigious ranking institutions like QS (IIMB in top 100) and FT (IIMB in top 50). He proudly announced the exemplary work done by the entire IIMB community to fight against the pandemic and lend a helping hand to the less privileged.

“My sincere gratitude to all those who help us in achieving our vision and helped IIMB sustain excellence despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic. A lot of interesting times are ahead of us. We are coming up with the second campus with an objective of offering undergraduate courses. There are plenty of other new initiatives planned for the institute. We hope you will stay connected with your alma mater. You all have been trained to be leaders and change agents. So, take on the most challenging problems, solve in exemplary ways and set an example for the future generation of professionals,” he said.

The students from each programme were led by their respective programme Chairpersons, current and past: Professor Haritha Saranga for the PhD programme, Professor Anil B Suraj for PGPPM, Professor Allen P Ugargol and Professor Gopal Mahapatra for PGPEM, and Professor Ashok Thampy for EPGP.

Former Director of IIMB Professor G Raghuram, Deans Chetan Subramanian, Rajendra K Bandi and Sourav Mukherji, Professor B Mahadevan, from the Production & Operations Management area, Professor U Dinesh Kumar (DS), Professor Suresh Bhagavatula (Entrepreneurship) and Professor Venkatesh Panchapagesan (F&A) were present.

Col (Retd.) SD Aravendran conducted the event with the support of the programme offices and administrative staff of IIM Bangalore.

It was a joyous occasion for the Classes of 2020 and 2021 as they interacted with their one-time batchmates, faculty members and other members of the institute. They also received mementos from the IIMB Director. Some of the former students were accompanied by their parents and other family members who had travelled to be part of the ceremony.

The felicitation for the two-year full time MBA: Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) Class of 2021 and Class of 2020 will be held on May 28 (Saturday), 2022 and May 29 (Sunday), 2022, respectively. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the Institute’s YouTube channel.
