Naveen Prashanth

Gold Medalist for Best All Round Performance - Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP)

Delighted with his achievement and rightfully so, Naveen says the two-year post graduate program in management at IIM Bangalore has been a magical experience. “I have enjoyed the opportunity to learn from world class faculty, I have enjoyed practice thinking about management problems and I have absorbed wisdom from years of management literature in a short span of time,” he says.

Describing the exposure gained at IIMB as “invaluable”, Naveen says: “Participating in business competitions at other B-schools, in India and abroad, helped enhance my classroom learning.” Naveen was elected by the batch (from amongst 5 candidates) to represent IIMB at SP Jain’s flagship Next-CEO Hunt competition (‘Finding Neo’), a 2-day event that tested his cross-discipline acumen against representatives from 12 other colleges. He was also selected for a similar 3-day competition at IIM Kozhikode. He won both these contests. Further, he was runner-up (team of 3) in Modus Operandi (OpMac event), a campus finalist (team of 4) in the Mahindra War Room and reached the final selection round (amongst 3,000 worldwide applications) in the World MBA summit at Barcelona.

At IIMB, Naveen was awarded the Director’s Merit Award (Rank 5). He was Section Topper for Term 2 and received the Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship. He co-authored an article based on his Contemporary Courses project that was shortlisted for publication by ‘Tejas’, the internal knowledge management portal of IIMB.

Kakarla Usha

Gold Medalist - Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management

“For me, a mid-rung government officer, whose future assignments will most likely involve policy-making responsibilities, the post graduate program in public policy and management (PGPPM) at IIM Bangalore came at the correct juncture in my career. The program has given me invaluable and extremely practical insights into the making of public policy. The program was made especially interesting with management lessons applicable to the public sector,” says Usha.

She concedes that going back to the disciplined regimen of classes and examinations after many years of work life was challenging initially, but is quick to add that she grew to enjoy her new life very quickly, “especially given the high quality of teaching by the faculty of IIM Bangalore.”

She says the best part of her two-year experience at IIMB came from interacting with her talented and gifted batch mates. “I would definitely recommend IIM Bangalore’s management program in Public Policy for mid-career bureaucrats who are looking to steer their thinking in a new direction,” she adds.

Ramesha G

Gold Medalist - Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management

“The Post Graduate Program in Public Policy and Management  (PGPPM) at IIM Bangalore is a very useful program for civil  servants. It is good that the duration of the program is now one  year. The sessions on Policy Analysis and Evaluation, Economics, Leadership and Organizational Behavior, Finance, and Statistics have come in handy in my day-to-day work and have helped me in strategic planning. The four-week international  module that I did at Syracuse University (USA), as part of the program, gave me deeper insights about policy making in other countries too,” says Ramesha G, Gold Medalist, PGPPM (2014-  2015).

He specializes in direct taxes. He wrote a comprehensive policy paper, titled ‘Digital Economy - Direct Taxation Challenges and Policy Options’ as part of his program at IIMB.

He has worked in the Income Tax Department, Government of India, since 2005, as Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner at Goa, Mangalore and Bengaluru in the areas of Income Tax Assessment, Investigation, Administration, Technical, International Taxation etc.

While at IIMB, he was one of the group members of ‘Speed 14’ – the team that won the II runner-up prize in the 3rd IIMB Policy Hackathon Competition at the Annual International Conference on Public Policy and Management.
