Welcome to the Centre for Public Policy

Sriram

The Centre for Public Policy at IIM Bangalore is special and unique in many ways and actively engages with multiple stake holders: academics, policy makers, private sector enterprises, students or anybody interested in the broad field of public policy.  We are not only about policy analysis, but we also actively engage in the cycle of policy formulation-implementation- evaluation– reformulation.

We undertake research in diverse fields which all feed into policy making. We are a research centre with a strong teaching mandate. We apply the emerging knowledge into our pedagogy not only for a range of courses that we offer cutting across diverse programmes offered by IIMB, but it strongly feeds into our Master of Management Studies (Public Policy) (MMS(PP)) as well.

We have a collaborative programme with the Government of India – the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship, a two-year blended programme to train individuals with an undergraduate degree to work with the District Skill Committees.

We also undertake many mid-career executive programmes for a diverse set of senior government officers. We also offer open executive programmes.

Being a think-tank we provide advice and evaluate on-going policies at the national level, in the states, and in multiple municipalities. However, being housed within an academic setting we bring rigor and build learning and knowledge from these engagements in the form of case studies and policy narratives that influence our teaching.

Our faculty members engage in understanding how changes in our economy, society, polity, and governance lead to new challenges as well as structurally impacts our world. Our faculty members are presently working on a wide and ever changing set of topics broadly around issues of urban governance, law, and development, understanding mechanisms through which social policy impacts health and gender outcomes, challenges in financial inclusion and the broader consequences of inequality. Themes in public management and public service delivery are also central to the work we do.

Our annual international public policy conference has over the years become a destination conference where quality papers both theoretical and applied are discussed with a participation from students, researchers, civil society and policy practitioners.

In addition to research publications we actively engage in organizing Policy Hackathons, organizing policy talks, write popular articles in newspapers, write blogs and provide forums for interacting with policy makers, researchers and civil society. We hope you will stop by our blogs, our other points of web presence, and of course, also our campus.
