Research & Publications Office inaugurates Summer Research Methodology Workshop 2026

Workshop aims to benefit academic researchers, PhD students and early career faculty at management institutes across the country

20 April, 2026, Bengaluru: The Office of Research and Publications (R&P) at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) inaugurated its Summer Research Methodology Workshop 2026, earlier today. The workshop is an attempt towards capacity building in conducting meaningful research, aimed at benefiting academic researchers, PhD students and early career faculty at management institutes across the country. Ninety-three candidates are taking part in an immersive workshop on Research Methodology, being held from 20th to 25th April 2026.

The Programme Directors are Prof. Sushanta Kumar Mishra, Chairperson of Research & Publications, C-DOCTA, Executive Education Programmes and the Centre for Teaching & Learning, Editor-in-Chief of IIMB Management Review, and faculty of the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area, and Prof. Deepak Chandrashekar of the Strategy area.

In his inaugural address, Prof. M Jayadev, Dean Administration, Chairperson, Centre for Capital Markets & Risk Management and faculty of the Finance & Accounting area, said, “For the last 20 years, research output in management institutes has increased – industry has been recognizing the same and various agencies are accepting research output. So, joining the PhD degree is not just about meeting UGC or other regulatory requirements. It provides an opportunity to intensify your thinking at both the macro and micro-levels, thereby providing solutions to specific management problems. The bar has been rising day by day, time to time, people are reaching to the best possible journals, and Indian contribution is reaching world-class knowledge. We have been facing the problem of data access, but now several institutes are subscribing to international databases, and in some cases, proprietary data is also being contributed. Now even the government is voluntarily sharing data.”

Prof. Jayadev also stressed on AI-related challenges in research and academia, and said, “Identifying the problem and methodology is not enough. Research output being relevant and reliable is the need of the hour. So, technical agility of this research is a factor because technology is going to make it outdated very soon”. Highlighting the ‘truth factor’ in research, he said, “Truth is a fundamental thing. Our ancient systems and knowledge systems have been talking about Satyam Vada. Establishing trust is paramount for academic output as well as actions. If the trust is lost, everything is lost”.

Prof. Deepak Chandrashekar spoke about IIM Bangalore while delivering the welcome address. Describing the Institute’s evolution over 50 golden years, he said how IIMB moved from catering to the requirements of PSU capacity building to transforming the entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem in the country, especially in Bangalore. Speaking about the diverse faculty body at IIM Bangalore, he said, “The landscape in Indian academics has changed and is now focused on research. Hence, faculty would spend relatively less time in teaching and concentrate more on research. Our faculty members engage in case writing, collaborate with industries, create real-world cases that are used in classes and also engage in consulting assignments”.

Prof. Sushanta Kumar Mishra provided an overview of the workshop with a central focus on IIMB’s motto, ‘Tejasvi navadhitamastu’ which translates as: ‘let our learning be enlightening’, and advised the participants to make meaningful contribution for the society.
